Why are you running for this office?
This is an extension to my life long commitment to education in New Britain.
What is the most pressing local issue facing your community and how would you solve it (within the capacity of the office for which you are running)?
In my opinion less than adequate funding of education in New Britain. My plan is to continue to educate my constituents regarding the inequality of the tax structure and its impact on unequal outcomes.
With the state's ongoing budget crisis looming over the election, what are your plans for your community's budget? Is there anything you can do make your town less dependent on revenue from the state?
Yes, we could regionalize educational funding and revisit the structure of funding for Charter schools.
The legislature has been debating various ideas to allow towns to raise revenue locally through something other than property taxes. If you could ease your residents' property tax burden by adding another method of taxation, is there anything you might consider for your town?
For low income cities, like New Britain, "local" taxation solutions are unsound and impractical.
Are you in favor of regionalizing more services in conjunction with other nearby communities? If so, which ones?
Yes, providing an equitable and proportionate mechanism for allocating resources can be established.
Should your school district get the same amount of education funding from the state if your district's enrollment is dropping?
Student enrollment represents only one factor used to determine state funding. I do not believe a drop in enrollment due to Charter school assignments should be used exclusively for allocating funding needed to support education infrastructure and services.
What's one thing most people don't know about you?
Since I attended segregated schools for my entire education, I have a unique perspective regarding the value of diversity.
