Why are you running for this office?
I chose to run because I found myself questioning financial decisions being made in town hall and wanted to have a seat at the table in decision making. I have lived here for most of my life and am invested in West Hartford's future.
What is the most pressing local issue facing your community and how would you solve it (within the capacity of the office for which you are running)?
The current majority leadership sought fit to proceed with this wasteful endeavor in purchasing the UConn property, with environmental issues that will require clean-up costs estimated in the millions with no planned use for the property and no new tax revenue being created with the purchase.
With the state's ongoing budget crisis looming over the election, what are your plans for your community's budget? Is there anything you can do make your town less dependent on revenue from the state?
This town cannot count on State funding as it is likely to decrease or be eliminated in coming years due to the State’s fiscal issues. Budgeting properly for long-term sustainability should be our primary goal.
The legislature has been debating various ideas to allow towns to raise revenue locally through something other than property taxes. If you could ease your residents' property tax burden by adding another method of taxation, is there anything you might consider for your town?
I do not believe new tax avenues are the answer, rather budgeting and reducing spending should be the first item we look at.
Are you in favor of regionalizing more services in conjunction with other nearby communities? If so, which ones?
At this time, I am not in favor of regionalization for West Hartford.
Should your school district get the same amount of education funding from the state if your district's enrollment is dropping?
All facets of the cost of education should be considered when it comes to funding. The first item to be examined should be how much we currently spend per student and how much comparable towns spend per student; that should be a good starting point to determine what is needed.
What's one thing most people don't know about you?
I have never seen a reality or competition show on TV.
